Hello all.
Ive never had a 4x4 before and was out today just playing around with my savage xs flux and noticed around 10 minutes in my trucks back tires stopped spinning. I checked the 2 shafts that go to the tires and there good so I'm assuming its a gear of some sort. Anybody know what the gear is called or what one it is.
I really don't know why it broke, I wasn't really bashing just driving it around a parking lot and in some very short grass.
Sorry for the newbie questions guys, I'm new at having my own rc and the guy that got me into rc's passed away.

Well if the drive cups are tight, then is time to open up the differential and inspect the gears and related parts , I am sure you will find what is wrong.....

When I open it there isnt going to be a bunch of parts that just fall out is there? Is there a wrong way or roght way when opening it up?
Thanks for the quick reply .Appreciate it.

I would likely look at the pin shown below. It probably fell out.

Thanks. Checking it out here in a few minutes.
Thanks again

Damn, Good call. I believe that is it. If it wasn't missing then it definitely is now. When was checking it out the part that pin is supposed to hold just fell off.

Glad you found your answer. Purchase a few of those, and make sure you add some loctite when you reinstall.

Will do that for sure! hopefully that is it.
Thanks guys!

I think that fixed it but something still seems weird. I don't remember being able to move the back wheels so easy with my finger. I can easily just spin the back wheels with a finger with what seems like no resistance. Hmm, Maybe I'm just over thinking it.
Also, On another thing I noticed a lot of the allen head screws seem to be pretty weak metal and strip easy..well that or the actual allen wrench is stripping.

Yep. That pin was the problem. Thanks everyone who replied, I seriously would have been lost if on my own.
One more thing...Is there a trick/place to put the battery's lead/wire to prevent my back tire from rubbing it? As usual your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Try tucking the leads under the battery hold down strap and that outta keep them from rubbing the tires.... or maybe even put the battery in with the leads facing forward and plug it in that way.....

Today was the first time I've actually got to take it out on dirt and it did great! I was jumping snow piles from the paved drive in to the yard and it was a blast! A few bad landings but nothing broke (except a piece of the antenna about 2 1/2") These things are crazy fast just on the 2S and can only imagine on the 3s. Don't know how you would control it. On the concrete and grass it wants to flip if your heavy on the throttle but I found a inbetween where i could wheelie for 30 or so ft and was fun as all hells.
Thanks for helping with my problems all.

OK, Here's a new problem with the back right wheel not wanting to move and making some noise. You can see it in the pic. Once again any advice will greatly help as I'm still learning. I'm pretty sure its a bearing of some sort but other than that.....
Thanks101_0574.JPG

That is an obscene amount of grease. I suggest you take that whole entire truck apart and rebuild it. Replace any parts that are worn and grease the diffs. Also if you have stainless allen head screws you might want to keep an eye on them- if they seem weak throw them out. I have only had savage xss kits and they came with all philips head screws. What does the rest of your truck look like? Post up some pictures.

Its factory greased, I didn't do anything to it. Only thing I've done extra to the truck is add a wheelie bar and upgraded turnbucklels cause i slammed in to a curb because of the weakish servo it comes with. Also, I have no idea how to take apart the diff but will try when I get a replacement bearing. Is that something that I have to do to replace that busted bearing or do I need to anyways because of all the grease?
Thanks all, will post some pics of the savage xs flux in a few.

please inspect the diff due to the excessive amount of grease/oil seen in the pic, you could have the gear and the diff cup seperating and it allowed the oil to leak out and mix with the grease on the bevel gear.

to the HPI site and manual for the flux, I do not own a flux but I believe the diffs are similar. You could also look up the savage .25 SS kit manual and it may give you the step by step as that was a kit.

Will Fast eddy's bearing kit come with the bearing i need in the pic?
Thanks

Yup, that's a differential Bevel shaft bearing supporting the output gear to the differential..... It will be in there....

Is there a big difference in factory bearings compared to fast eddys bearings? thanks

Yes there is a difference, Fast Eddy uses premium bearings and factory bearings are made as cheaply as possible to get the job done....and Fast Eddys prices are hard to beat for a good set of bearings.... if you are going to get some may as well get better than stock... the diff bearings take a lot of load so that's how I would go.....

Dang, I don't have enough post to enter the Bearing give away. I really need em to. My truck is going to be down for a while until I can come up with cash that my old lady wont blow me sh*t about.

Well, I migt be able to enter now, Maybe not. Says I have insufficient privileges or something.

My truck is still down unfortunately. hoping to get a bearing kit soon.

I'm up and running now. All it was, was a bearing I thought it was going to be a lot more. I guess I was just to nervous about cracking it open and tearing it up. I checked the rear dif and checked all the teeth and everything is a ok. It wasnt near as bad opening it up as I thought it was going to be.
Thanks all.
