Just got some new FLM parts for the Savage...
It's not a really major project, but I thought I would post it in this forum.

This is how it started off after I did a complete tear down of the truck...

The FLM's arrived in the mail first thing in the morning...

Yeh, I can't wait to get the stuff fitted...If all goes well I should have everything done in time for the weekend :Xfingers:

Thank you for posting this, I love watching other people projects. It helps motivate me to work on my truck.

Nice Shortay You Did Good On That One. Truck Looks Great And I Like The Quality Of The Tvp's And Engine Plate Skid Plate. Like To See A Vid!

You should of bought a few more bits from SMF to do the mid tank mod. I got my bits from SMF yesterday as well and I have been working on getting it all put together. It has actually been easier then expected. I'll put up a guide on how I did mine soon.

I put in the safety stop review thread how it fits to this chassis as well shortay.

How did you find the chassis fit to the rest of the truck shortay? I had a few issues with the screws not lining up with the holes around the gearbox. I also had to drill out the holes in the chassis where the metal bits from bulkhead go and it is still really tight.

I had the same problem with the FLM steering link. I had to drill the holes out in the link so the provided little metal spacers would fit and move freely. Some instructions would of been nice too (maybe i'm just stupid ) because I initially put the spacers around the wrong way and I was thinking this is never going to work. The end of the spacer with the lip on it goes between the plastic arm and the FLM steering link :duh:.

The other really stupid moment I had was when I was trying to work where the second chassis brace for the FLM servo plate went :duh:. It's so obvious but for the life of me I couldn't work it out. I had to go look up pictures on the net.

I just had a few minor line-up issues...and i had to dremmel a bit out of the fuel tank mount to get it into place.
Just a minor issue, but one of the Braces that hold the engine plate up that came with the TVP's didn't have a thread, it was just a hole, kuckily I still had a spare one...

That looks like the wrong brace. That's the brace that is meant to come with the servo plate. The threaded part is in the steering posts.

What exactly does the new chassis allow you to do? It looks like it extended the wheelbase and added some extra holes in the frame so you could make adjustments. Sorry, I'm new.

It lowers the original Savage by 12mm (Savage X 7mm) and extends the chassis by 40mm and is 4mm thick, while I'm sure the stock TVP's are only 2mm thick
It doesn't extend the wheels base, the wheel base is from one side to the other, this extends the length of the car...
It also give you extra holes for adjustments

TVP = Twin Vertical Plates
A lot of people call it a chassis, but this is the technical name for it on the Savage

It's extended and much lower that like the 25 chassis and is 1/2 lower than the X chassis. Thus keeping the weight closer to the ground to keep the roll center down so less roll overs and the length helps keep the wheels on the ground. This chassis also gives better handeling becuase of the stuff I listed.

So is this mod for bashing, racing or just driving around? You lose suspension travel, but gain stability because it's lower. What benefits does the longer wheelbase offer?

Keeps wheelies down a bit, it would be more for racing...
You don't lose suspension travel...It just lowers then engine, keeping the weight closer to the ground and giving you more stability.
the reason mine looks so low is because I have 20mm shock limiters in my shocks.

yeah I have the standard length flm lcg chassis. the standard length chassis has it's advantages too. tighter turning, move manoeuvrable in the air and some people like wheelies.

You will still get all the wheelies you want with the Ext chassis. The long chassis lets you put more power to the ground because you tires will be there longer. Its all in the gearing if you want wheelies. I use this chassis on both my racer and my basher trucks. I love both for the racer it will be just awsome and for the basher I love it becuse i do alot of climbing and it helps alot with keeping the front on the surface much easier.

The Long chassis has lot of control in the air but the flips are a bit tougher to come by but can still be achieved.

Like Shortay said with the extended LCG chassis you don't loose suspension travel at all but you do loose some center ground clearance.

man i love the way the flm tvp's look!!!
