I didn't like the look of the black head, so I sanded the sides and left the top black. So far, it's been a great runner.

That’s a good easy mod with sanding the sides might do that myself, can you post a close up showing side of cooling head please? 👍🏻

This is another force .28 that I did the top and the side.

Thanks that looks a lot better stripped back, what grit grade did you use on the top or did you use some paint stripper?

Have you found it effected temperature of mill in anyway though?

Yes they done away with primer years back as found it could cause air leaks I believe!

I used a vibrating sander, started with 150 to 1500 emery cloth. I took the head off when I did it. I really don't know on the heat difference. I just hated the look. But you got me curios.

Okay thanks again for info much appreciated! 👍🏻

I guess if you have not noticed/suffered any tuning issues it hasn’t effected much!

Thanks, yes see that earlier just wondered if they all were & was thinking of later rust/corrosion! 👍🏻

Nice, are the fuel tank the same on the earlier .21? I want to get rid of the push primer.
Yes the fuel tanks are completely interchangeable, If you want to change from the primer type to the non-primer one tho try to pick up an old stock model. The new ones now are really poor quality and crack easy. The older ones are more of an Opaque colour with the newer ones being almost clear. The older ones also have ribs in the moulding in the lower part of the tank which the new one doesn't
Yet another sign of HPI going for the cheaper option on their parts..

New type tank,

Older style tank.

Thanks, I've noticed the quality of the new parts have gone downhill. I bought a new pipe and the quality was horrible!!!!

Yes the quality of their parts now is woeful, and don't get started on their pipes, LOL. Have had 4 of the composite ones that they use on the 4.6 melt on me, one didn't even last a tank a fuel. It's a real shame as HPI used to be the Kings of RC back in the old days.

LOL mate, your having a giggle ain't you, didn't get a sausage from them, they don't seem to reply to emails that slates their woeful products. Talking of woeful products I have had 2 RF-40 receivers die on me today as well. Went to take the Basher out and the receiver was dead. just flashes once and that's it, wouldn't mind but it worked fine when put in the other week, hasn't been used. The trucks just been sitting on the shelf. changed it for a spare I had and strange but that one didn't work either. Which it did a couple of months ago. It isn't the transmitter as have tried it on another truck & it isn't the battery pack. Did a search for the fault on line & on YouTube and found many other people asking the same question with the same fault. Didn't find any answer tho.
On a plus note that S25 mill which I bench run yesterday started up well in this cold weather with no pre-heat. Didn't cut out or anything but didn't run it to hard as using an old 27meg FM crystal radio on it at the mo with no failsafe and not 100% happy with the throttle servo at the moment, working ok but just got a feeling about it so will switch it out payday along with the radio gear.
I think I'm going to get a bin just for HPI rubbish, seem to get alot of it and I'm not talking packaging, think the packet is probably the best part of their products at the moment. 😜🤨👎

That’s annoying with receivers, take it you have checked plugs/connectors & rebinding it strange?
Blimey it’s got dirty, to blooming cold to tempt me outside still!

Yer did check everything and can't try rebinding as can't get them to power on.
Yer had to get one of them out, been months now just looking at them collecting dust on the shelfs. Plus need to run that engine abit longer to check it was going to run ok.👌

So, since we're talking about it;) I still have old school, receiver's and radios in my trucks and boat. What is a good radio and receiver, that won't break the bank!! I'm so old school, I switch out crystals:sneaky:

Well I am using a FlySky GT3b radio, I think it's a good budget set. It has 10 memory setting so great if you have more than one truck like me. Some people slate them but have found them ok if you don't want to spend silly money. The receivers are cheap to at under £10 each. Think I paid £38.99 for my set up early last year, came with 2 receiver and have since added 8 more.
They do take 8 AA batteries which makes them quite heavy but I like the extra weight. I use 2500mha rechargeable ones and have only had to charge them twice since I've had it. You can put a LiPo pack in it if you want. The GT3c is the next one up and only uses 4 AA batteries. I would recommend one I love mine.
Only reason I have been messing around with the HPI TF-40 setup is cause I've run out of memory positions on it, but think I will get another one or a GT3c for the rest of my trucks.
If you search YouTube there are plenty of articles about them. some bad but most good.

Did break the trigger on mine being heavy handed while setting one of trucks up, pushed the brake to hard and snapped the little lever off that goes in front of your thumb. Got a new new off AliExpress for under £4, arrived in 2 weeks and took 10 minutes to fit.
