not sure why tower lists it as discountinued.....hpi hasn't. as far as I know they are still making them.

don't you have an octane? are you looking for a new motor or something?

I called Tower Hobbies and in fact it is discontinued. The women on the phone really couldn't give me a reason just that it is discounted. I messaged HPI on Face Book to find out if they plan on discontinuing the truck. They have not responded back yet.

If they have discontinued it then retailers that have stock would have to discount them to sell them once it becomes known. The 8ight-T with the Dynamite .31 gas engine was closed out for $299 recently. I got one. I found it interesting that no piston/ sleeve parts are available and started wondering if it was about to be discontinued.

Aside from Towerhobbies status I haven't heard or read anything else about it being discontinued.

Hello Francis I am pretty sure I had that truck before you and I could not get it started either. I bought it from the scratch and dent from Tower Hobbies back in August this year and sent it back in the beginning of Sept. I bought a brand new savage octane in place of that one. I will be completely honest, these trucks are a pain in the butt. I finially have mine running good but it has been quite a process. I have them figured out real well at this point. If you get yours going and need tips feel free to ask.

The engine was blown when I got it. I fixed it. It blew again. It is sitting in the garage. I think I am going to put a LRP 32 in it in the spring.

When you opened the box were the parts in ziplock sandwich bags? That is how I packed it before I sent it back. That was how it was sold to me as well, slightly used no damage. I was just curious if it might have been the same truck that was sent to me. I got blisters trying to start the one I had. The guys from Hobbico were not any help. I have all the other savages but the octane is the most fun. I had a LRP in my Savage X and the power was insane. I had trouble keeping the clutches healthy. I actually have 2 octanes. I bought all the parts from Dollar hobbies and built one from the ground up. It might sound nuts but l learned a lot in the process. I never ran the second one I just packed it up in the box mine came in and just tucked it away. I did find a octane motor on e bay a month back and bought it. It was new and never used. I wish you luck the truck is fun once running.

Thats the one I got.
I believe the LRP will be more powerful and lighter than the octane engine. I intend to start with 16/47 gearing. I just have to re-engineer the throttle linkage.
I did get to run 1 tank through it.

That was one of the biggest things I learned about this truck. Once running it does not have to be leaned out. At least where I live I was having the issues of truck stalling after running 10 minutes and not restarting and once I started to fatten up the high speed needle all my problems went away. The truck was starving for fuel. I not saying I went nuts adjusting but probably a 1/8 of a turn richer over stock settings. And build quality on these trucks is awful. For the longest time my truck would not wheelie. Did not understand why. I took apart clutch bell and examined the shoes and they were shot. I would say they are good for 20 tanks and plan on changing them. Also HPI never put the set screw in my 2nd gear clutch so my truck was not staying in first gear it was going into second almost immediately. I must say this also wore the clutches much faster. So I put set screw in. I am about 6 tanks on new shoes and wheelies are no prob and things are going good. I hope with these changes things hold up better.

Good luck with the LRP motor. Take some pictures, sometimes a back up plan is not a bad thing to have. If I have any more problems I would like to try and figure a way to put a Baja 26 fuelie in my octane. I bought a Baja, and that format is way simpler than the octane. Mine started on the 4th pull and ran super. I wish my octane had done that.

The Savage Octane has been discontinued.
I called the other day and was told by HPI customer service agent.
Took along time get it running right. Once I found out it was discontinued I sold it.
The Octanes were temperamental dogs. POS for the money I invested buying new.

Savage XL Octane V2
#116386

The Savage XL Octane gets a big makeover with this awesome ‘V2’ release! The Savage XL Octane V2 is now easier to start than ever before with its factory broken-in GT15C engine, plus it's more powerful thanks to a huge new aluminum tuned pipe. The truck is also more reliable with a relocated electronics box featuring large cooling vents, plus the CDI electronics and receiver are now easier to use with LiPo-compatible battery boxes, which Octane owners will really appreciate. You'll still get more than 20-minute runtimes and be able to get the most out of the legendary Savage toughness thanks to its TVP chassis design and super-durable suspension and drivetrain - the Savage XL Octane V2 is even better and more enjoyable than ever before!

does anyone know when will be the release date of the octane v2?

They usually take a long time between showing the concept and actual production. I'd assume no earlier than late this year, but likely early next year.

So there's time to save up, thanks X
