Hey, I posted another vid last night. Didn't get to run it long this weekend, it needs some love.

WOW that manifold does stick out in the danger zone a bit.... I would try to pull it out and get it off the cage, maybe soon there will be different exhaust manifolds out there for it, I am not sure how I like how it is out in the wind anyway, Good Luck with it......

Thanks for the well wishes. My plan is to get it hot again and then try pulling it out by wrapping a wire around it and just pulling by hand. It's aluminum... I shake my head at aluminum exhaust parts. Steel gets soft at those temps, let alone aluminum. It's $50 new.... when they'll be available in September! I saw a full exhaust set available for bid on ebay, that may be the only place to get one this summer. I'm really hoping that Jetpro or DDM gets their asses in gear and make a kickass pipe for this thing. Make it durable guys! At the very least, I'd like to see a replacement manifold in a more durable material.

It shouldn't be much longer until some new pipes are available for the Octane.

hello Wayne I too have had the same problem with the clutch motor high rpm but low speed

Recently I was shopping with the wife and saw a hobby shop, I went in and they had the Octane on display, I got to check it out in detail and was less than impressed, it looks like a haphazard thrown together vehicle, pretty sad actually, Talking with the folks there and they said they had sold a few and every one of them had been returned with major problems with exhaust, pullstarter, clutch issues and none had even been run that much..... I would put my nitro savage up against the octane and whip its butt good for it. the engine is a modified airplane engine and was never designed to be in a surface vehicle, the Losi XXL Gas truck was right next to it and it looked much better designed and actually runs 100 times better than the new savage octane.... I am thinking this is a GIANT FAIL on HPI's part and they should all be recalled until these troubles are worked out.....

I still don't see why hpi hasn't put the Baja engine in it. most ( but not all ) of it's problem's would be gone.
You've obviously never seen an HPI Baja engine. The engines on a HPI Baja is far to large to fit in a Savage or even Losi LST for that matter.

yes, I've seen the Baja engine. I guess it would be big for the 1/5scale savage. but, then again, the xl really isn't a true 5th scale. it's longer, but they need to make the chassis wider. then maybe they could fit one in. just a thought

the xl really isn't a true 5th scale.
What? Who said it was a 1/5th scale? It's never been advertised as a 1/5th scale RC. The Baja line is the only 1/5th scale RC HPI makes. The Savage, including the Octane, is a 1/8th scale.

HPI wasn't looking to build a whole new truck, they wanted to convert what they had to gas and that's exactly what they did with the Savage Octane.

huh. ur right. I just looked at hpi racing's site. for some weird reason I thought that they were saying that it's a 5th scale  then, they should make there own gas engine, like losi did with the lst. I wonder if it would be hard to put an lst egine in an octane. probably not too hard. if I remember, someone wanted to do that with an Savage XL a little bit ago

they should make there own gas engine, like losi did with the lst.
Because that's really paying off for users too? Being a Savage forum I don't expect to see many people posting their thoughts here about the Losi but if you look around other sites there are several people complaining they are burning through plugs, button head plugs, and even multiple people blowing through engines.

Both trucks are in their first generation, they of course are going to have bugs to work out and I have every belief both Losi and HPI will get them worked out.

I agree with you.
I ran mine alongside my brothers el tamya something, and it is two different worlds.
In my case something good came out of the savage octane - my interest for RC cars re-ignited.
An expensive spark, though.

I am now building a new workshop dedicated-ish to rc cars...
Soon there will be more octane cars.

Perhaps the savage can do well as a base for a new build. Always wanted to build my own machine.

btw: anyone else having problems with thread/forum alerts?
I seldom recieve any alerts at all.

I seldom recieve any alerts at all.

Do you have them setup? Click on your icon in the upper right of the website and click "personal details". Then in that menu click "your alerts", then "alert preferences".

There isn't many options, perhaps you have some unchecked?

Thanks, they are all checked. And I recieved alerts earlier.

Strangest thing..
I've recieved 3 alerts now after writing that post - nothing changed at my end.
Must be my mailhost playing with the filters or something I guess.
