Gaskets? Do we really need em?

I'm missing the big round gasket that fits inside the diff case. Is it really necessary that I put one in or can I get away without it? Can not using one cause performance loss or damage to internal parts?

Without the gasket the diff oil will leak out, causing your diffs to run dry and in turn damage them. Best case would be only damage to the diff, worse case would be damage in the drivetrain / tranny as well.

Thanx, I actually use grease in the diff. Do you think grease would leak as well?

I have made gaskets like this before so maybe that is an option for you to consider.....either way use the gaskets made or bought......
