I was out basing with my savage xs and all of a sudden the brakes don't work and the truck keeps bolting until it hits a bump and flips over.

The receiver antenna is about 3 inches long after many bashing sessions. Could this be the reason?

If that's the reason what's the cheapest solution to extend the range back to normal ????

I can't solder so any other suggestions on radios? Does it have to be 3 channel ?

repair as above, and get yourself a "Failsafe" the little device could save you a lot of money.
don't be a tight arse they are cheap & easy to fit.;)

Cant SOLDER ????? is one of the easiest things one can do, with a lil time and a cheap 40 watt iron and a roll of rosin core solder it will take about 2 seconds to repair. my suggestion is to get an iron and some supplies and LEARN THE SKILL........ for about 20 bux ya can get a lil kit that has it all and learn on some wire layin around...... is alot on the net out there to learn from so not knowing is a poor excuse for not doin it......

I need an antenna though... Not sure where I would find just antenna wire...

Actually I'm thinking of just getting a new radio 40/50$ and I'm set.

I'm seriously considering buying a flysky radio.

soldering is simple, and i have a FS-GT2C and like it, not that i have much to compare it to. its my first 2.4ghz radio. you will want a stand-alone failsafe. the flysky ones don't do low batt.

So the FS-GT2C will work on my savage xs?? The price is not bad... Doesn't this have a fail safe built in ??

The FlySky only engages fail-safe when the signal from the transmitter is lost/getting inetrference. The FS-GT3B or FS-GT3C are better radios and you could find one on eBay for only a couple dollars more than you're probably paying for the GT2C. (I'm about to get one)
An aftermarket fail-safe will stop the truck when the reciever battery is low. You just clip it inline with the throttle servo. simple (no soldering lol) but if you want to spend less money, learn to solder. it's not tough.

The savage xs is electric so you don't need a fail safe and if it has built in fail safe for signal loss, then your good. If your LVC is set right, then when the batt gets to low, that will kick in.

the GT2B is very basic. It uses knobs to tune trim for throttle and steering and dual-rate for steering, but no trim adjustment for 3rd channel. It has no LCD screen and it also lacks memory capability to store multiple receivers.

On the GT3C, there is an LCD screen, a 10 vehicle memory if you want to use it with different vehicles, and a ton more adjustiblilty and features. I think for the price, its a good deal. if you don't need/want it, the GT2B is a good radio too.

That's what I know about the two. Some members here use the GT3C. Maybe they can offer their opinions on it. When i get mine, ill do a comparison (maybe) but I'm sure you're itching to get your truck rolling, so i hope there's enough info here to help you make a decision.

What about the FS-gt3B? It's about 45$ off eBay. Will that work for my savage xs???

that will work but it use AA batteries (8 i think, maybe 4), not a rechargeable 1S LiPo like in the GT3C. the "B" in GT3B means Batteries. The "C" in GT3C means Chargeable i think

I have the FlySky GT3B radio, I run my MMT and Savage both off 1 transmitter. had it awhile now and I just love the thing....yes it takes 8 batteries and all, but I used 1 set all last spring and summer bashing with it and they still say 11.5 volts LOL pretty good for running as much as I do during good weather....

So that would work fine with my savage xs??? I have rechargeable Duracell batteries so no worries there...

I think I'm going to go with the FS-gt3b. Thanks for all the help guys... I really appreciate all this information. I'll keep you guys posted when I get the radio.

You can always modify the GT3B to use a rechargeable battery later if you choose. But you'll need to learn to solder ;) . Just a side note
.
