Well I got a lot of parts laying around so I finally decided to put them to use along with purchasing a few that I don't have and some members on here helping me get some of the onesie twoosie parts needed.
Anyway this truck will be built with numerous parts from many different models of Savage's from 21's to XL's. The chassis is from a 21 which I have painted black and done some custom drilling as you will see. It will have a 2 speed trans and a PRC112 Hellfire mid-tank kit installed. This truck will also run the XL Differentials, Bulkheads, and shafts to the wheels along with the extended Output shafts. I have also de-anodized everything except for the Cam Style Servo saver. Anyway it will have a bunch of other stuff which you will see in the photo's.

A few other parts.

Bolts are loose but you can see I drilled a hole to mount the rear of the PRC112 Plate.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s123/larsenracing/Savage%20X%20Hybrid/Build005.jpg
Drilled some holes to mount the servo in the stock tank location using the FLM servo mounts.

A shot of where I am at so far this morning. I can't go much further today as I am waiting on parts.

Looking stealthy...
IMO, Engine plate should be CF or painted too...Balck is the new black! :lmao3:
Larsenracing
03-07-2009, 02:11 PM
I thought about using our CF one but wanted to see what this looks like first. Most of it will be covered by the engine or servo anyhow. The lower bulkhead plates are also de-anoed and have a brushed look as well.

what TVP's are them? I know the X tvp cant be drilled for the servo unless you have 2 right side plates. left side wont work.
Edit NM 21 I need to read better

Very Nice!! Cant wait to see more Keep it up!! 10+
Larsenracing
03-07-2009, 03:44 PM
Your correct Bank. These are the TVP's from the 21/25 Savage. They are a little high compared to my liking but will work great.
Thanks for the great comments guys. I will most definitely keep you up to date.

That is strange I was doing the same thing had some 25 parts x parts and xss parts lying around and decided to build a mutt LOL

03-10-2009, 03:52 PM
What did you use to paint the tvp's?
Larsenracing
03-10-2009, 04:15 PM
I scuffed then cleaned them via brake cleaner then primed and painted. Hopping it will stick well if not I will just repaint. I have heard that engine heat paint sticks better but thought I would give this a try. I can always strip them and repaint or whatever needed. I will keep this thread updated.
Also, an update on the project: It's at a stand still as I am waiting on a bunch of parts from the net. Should have stuff arriving everyday for the rest of the week and maybe a bit more. I will update with pictures as I go.

03-10-2009, 04:19 PM
Thanks! What motor will go into this?
Larsenracing
03-10-2009, 04:25 PM
I'm not sure on a powerplant yet. Something cheap! I will let you know as I decide in the near future. Thinking possibly the SH .28 which is from the same plant as the LRP and basically the same mill, But i'm unsure yet.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-10-2009, 04:27 PM
You could go with a hyper .21 sounds undersized I know but Im pretty sure thats the motor ill drop into mine....
Larsenracing
03-10-2009, 04:37 PM
Ya that would work as well. This will be a fairly light truck and is a standard wheel base so a decent .21 would probably do the trick but we will see. You got a link to a cheap one and do they have a provision for pull or rolo start?
You can find the SH .28 for just under $90 shipped on ebay but like I said im not sure yet.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-10-2009, 04:42 PM
Yeah I have only seen a pull start hyper .21 and the hyper is a little more its more in the 100-105 range but you will not be burning as much fuel either...

Hey Larsen dont make the same mistake I did im only half way done it looked so good the wife has already claimed it LOL :stickspank:
Larsenracing
03-10-2009, 05:15 PM
LOL Trix. I have one good thing on my side. My wife hates my R/C's. But I can always use here clothing spending against her. She also doesn't know yet that I am building this, LOL.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-10-2009, 07:56 PM
Larsen was that tank plate a direct fit or did you have to trim it? Cause I think you have to trims flm's plate but yours im not sure about.
wrenchman
03-10-2009, 11:45 PM
Looks good Jason...I was wondering what you were up to with your last order...now I know.
Larsenracing
03-11-2009, 09:00 AM
LOL Nick, ya I needed some bearings and so on.
I did trim the plate to fit around the transmission because of the 21/25 high COG Chassis. I will be making the changed to my plate for future so there is no cutting that will need to be done if someone wants to install it the way I did so for future reference it can be fit easily with no harm done.
frddyj
03-11-2009, 10:04 AM
....hmmm not much CF being used on this build, at this point i have to ask 'who are you & what have you done with Larz?'
Larsenracing
03-11-2009, 10:42 AM
LOL, It's me. I hear ya I haven't put much CF into this yet as I am just building it from a lot of parts I have laying around but also have purchased some. Just trying to do it right the first time.
Both of my other GP savages have lots of CF on them so I guess I figured that I would keep this one more stock. It will get a CF chassis at some point along with the rest of the parts. I just figured I have way to much of my stock in to the other 2 trucks and that I better stay away from this one for a while. LOL.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-11-2009, 04:34 PM
So you plan on making one that will be a direct fit then? Cause I am looking into a mid tank mod for my savage 25 and just trying to find what will be easiest.
Larsenracing
03-11-2009, 04:41 PM
That's the plan to make a change to both our PRC112 Hellfire Kit and our PRC125 OFNA 250cc Kit so they will fit.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-11-2009, 04:43 PM
That would be awsome and even better that you are looking into making one for the ofna 250cc tank.
Will the ofna 250cc tank fit between the 25 tvp's? Or is it too long?
Larsenracing
03-11-2009, 07:31 PM
It will fit between the 25 TVP's but will not fit with the old 21/25 front Bulkhead.
Larsenracing
03-11-2009, 08:04 PM
Alright today I received my Integy Rear Hub Carriers, an Air filter, Roll-bar, HPI BB shocks which will go on my racer and those will go on this, alum clutch shoes with a Flywheel. I also picked up Linkage stuff this weekend. I will be using a HPI SF-4 servo from the Baja throttle.
I'm still waiting on a few parts. Some bearings, the XL Drive shafts, Drive Cups, Hing pin's/braces for diffs, Red Fiber Dual Brake disk set, and a few other minor miscellaneous Parts which may very well all be here yet this week. I can't wait.

Pictures!!! Your build is going to be very simmular to my 25 build
Larsenracing
03-12-2009, 10:23 PM
Well here is a few updates. I received a bunch of parts in the last few days. I deanodized a few parts today and assembled the rear 1/3 of the truck. So here are a few updated shots.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s123/larsenracing/Savage%20X%20Hybrid/rear003.jpg
The springs may end up to an extra set of black ones I have but will get the truck assembled and decide at that point how it rides.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-12-2009, 11:16 PM
Two question 1. How are those integy rear carriers? 2. What did you to de ano? Sorry for all the questions
Larsenracing
03-13-2009, 09:34 AM
I like the Rear carriers a lot. I run them on one of my other trucks and have had no issues. Lots of people run them.
As for the anodizing here is how I removed it. There is a link on the first page otherwise on the second page is how I removed it along with a picture of the stuff used.

man that thing looks good without all the purple.I'm liking the natural look:10:
Larsenracing
03-13-2009, 04:51 PM
Agreed, it would look better with out the colored springs but the Blacks are pretty stiff for my taste but they work great for hard bashing but these with 30wt silicon oil worked great on my extended so they should work good here as well. I guess we will see. You are correct I like it better without the Purple as well.

03-13-2009, 06:57 PM
Looks great! What else do you need to complete?
Larsenracing
03-13-2009, 07:24 PM
HAHA now I need a servo unless I can dig something up I got laying around. I was out driving around with my X Breaking in the Modded Mach 427 and all the sudden the servo dies.
I-Hate-Traxxas
03-13-2009, 07:26 PM
Wow that close already? What motor did you deside on?

Will that hellfire kit work with the HPI low center gravity plates? I am looking at mid-tanking mine, but want to do it as clean and neat as possible. That plate seems like just what I am looking for to do it.
Larsenracing
03-13-2009, 07:46 PM
What LCG plates., the X's? If so yes it will work. You may have to use a large washer on the outside and sandwich the chassis on the rear hold but it will work.
ryugaiden05
03-13-2009, 07:53 PM
These are the plates http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/87248/
Larsenracing
03-13-2009, 08:02 PM
I would think it would fit just fine you may have to do what I mentioned above is to sandwich the chassis between a flatwasher and the Mid-tank plate but it should work.
ryugaiden05
03-13-2009, 08:03 PM
Ok, may look into in the near future then.

It will probably get a different motor but will run this for a little while. Gear is 15/47 with 2 speed, Integy Alum Shoes. I will also strap the battery up front on the shock tower with my PRC180 Rush Battery Box Mount and the Rush Box HPIA349. Steering servo is Hitec 5625MG and throttle/Brake is a HPI SF-4, which will probably go digital at some point but I have other servos that will go digi first. The Pipe it will start out with is a Team Losi RTR Pipe from a LST2 which is supposed to be an alright pipe.
I will continue to post the updates!

Sweet so how much money is in this truck? That is if you don't mind me asking
Larsenracing
04-02-2009, 10:03 PM
Ive spend $200. But had a lot of the parts already. A few of the larger purchases I had to buy were the Front and Rear XL Diffs and housings (Ebay), Integy Rear Hub Carriers, Flywheel, Clutch Shoes, Steering Digital Servo, XL DB's, XL Out-Drive Cups w/spacers.
I-Hate-Traxxas
04-02-2009, 10:05 PM
Yeah I remember you saying you were doing most of it with spare parts. Not a bad truck for only $200!
Larsenracing
04-02-2009, 10:07 PM
That list nor the price includes the PRC112, The hellfire Tank nor the Wing mount stuff. So there is an extra ~$70.
I-Hate-Traxxas
04-02-2009, 10:12 PM
Well you made that stuff so its basically like you already had it.

Looking great Jason! love the de-anodizing and the slick firestorm battery box mount... hmm may have to pick up one of those badboys from you....God I feel like my truck is costing me a million dollars and its not even together lol. Question do you have to use the XL driveshafts with the XL axles? I have the FLM hd axles so I'm contemplating getting the XL axles for a lil more stability
Larsenracing
04-04-2009, 12:57 PM
Yes it is using the X center shafts and the XL out drives to the wheels.
I run the FLM HD Axles on a 1 of my other trucks and will be switching the other soon to them.
Larsenracing
04-20-2009, 07:29 PM
Well I got the final build complete. All I need it a switch with the standard Futaba ends on both. The Linkages are of poor quality but will probably be replaced with time along with some other clean up but it's good enough to start with. Pictures below.
