All the mods are timing based, so pictures really dont show anything....

believe it or not, but much of what you see isn't where the power comes from....The fancy work does make for good pictures tho LOL !

Nice! Tell that guy to go 20/47 If he wants to use that power right...

Very nice work, I see you put alot of effort into making these things rip, very smooth and accurate work.

cant do it.. this is a XL with 7" tall Terrapins...if we geared up to 20/47 the motor would lose its power as well the clutches would not hold...even with the current gearing locked in second the clutches are having issues containing the motor....... When the power gets to this level gearing options are not as wide as we cannot get any of the clutch systems to hold......

with my lrp 28 i run 16/48 gearing and get wheelies and good top speed, when i bump it up to 18t i get verrry good topend, but I almost never get wheelies, also it sounds like my clutch is overworking and I dont want it to explode.

I prefer to let the motors rev a little so I like to keep the gearing on the lower side.... gearing em up takes away alot of the power you gain from the modified engine, and the extra top speed is wasted where we run....

I dont like a truck to wheelie like that. That is wasted power IMO. I dont like 16/47 in any combo. My LRP would stand up 2nd and pop 3rd gear with 17/47 19/47 took care of this. I dont like mills with no bottom end from mods... it would smoke a clutch in a truggy but I dont think you would have issues in a savage.

I like to know i have a wheelie on tap, but sometimes it gets out of hand. I only have 15t/16t/18t clutch bells and need to get a 17t to try it out.

15 is too short for any .28 they come stock with 17. the 5.9 comes with the 16 caz form the factory its a dog.. even with nubs on it. 17/18 is nice for the LRP. In a truggy or should I say my truggy the LRP with a 14/51 will cook a clutch in a tank. But I also modded the diffs to cen so its = to 16/51. the savage tranny lets you gear up a poop load

A Savage XL uses huge tires which changes the gearing requirements...this is a 2" extended truck with huge 7" tires...the HPI 5.9 runs 16/52 on a 3 speed with these tires...this motor is on a 16/47 using a 2 speed locked in second.....Once the motor is fully broken in I am sure he will gear it up....My prediction is with the XL tires the clutch will not handle the load of being geared up so high..... I am unsure of the math, but you guys can figure out how much more load a 7" tire is to spin..the gearing you use on the maxx sized tires does not apply with these tall tires....

I was just referring to the 5.9/16 caz I have one with all the other things but them poop tires ... the mill is a dog. With nubs it needs a 16 CB the biggest tire I have run was 6.5 inches and the 19/47 is fine with them. I dont see a half inch needing 4 teeth...

your thread is not about this anyways I love your mill work!

WOW, that thing looks amazing. You have done great work there.

I as well like mine geared low, but there is a point of being to low as well.

there is no question this modded motor can push more gear.. already he has first gear locked out so its starting off in second gear...So if he geared way up he would just open up first gear again.....My only concern is for the clutches, these full mod P3 28's make ungodly power and are very hard to clutch......when you gear a vehicle up it makes the clutch issues much worse........

I honestly would have figured since his truck is stuck in second gear it would be geared high enough to control the wheelies, obviously I was mistaken ! This motor still has a fair bit of power left on thetable, right now we are running extra head shimming to make break in easier...once the metal on metal pinch is gone we will remove the extra shimming and really let the motor sing !
