Hi all,
This is my first post on this sight and Im glad I found you guys.Im new to this hobby, I have a Traxxas TMaxx for a few months, then I just bought a new Savage X truck, it seems like a nice truck. I have read the manual completally and when I tried to start it the roto starter won't turn over the engine, when I pull the glowplug out the Rotostart turns the engine over real easy any ideas what Im doing wrong? I thought it might be flooded so I pulled the glowplug out and turned the engine over a few times just like the manual says to do, but when I put the gloplug back in as I've said the Rotostarter wont turn over the engine!!??Any info will be greatly appriciated.

pull the plug out and cycle the motor. Do you hear the piston cycling? If not, or if it only cycles off and on while using the rotostart, your one way bearing could be broken. That shouldn't be the case though. Is the actual rotostart spinning or is the shaft staying still as if it were locked?

New engine. Some have tighter compression than others. Try loosening the glow plug just enough to lighten the compression place the ignitor back on and hit it with the roto start. Also you could try a heat gun. Heat the engine casing just beneath the carb level then try it. If you don't have a heat gun use a blow dryer. It will take a bit longer to actually heat it up but the principle is the same.

I don't think the shaft on the Rorostart is turning with the gloplug in, and the piston seems to be cycleing alright when I turn the engine over with the gloplug out!! I took the battery out of the Traxxas starter, and put it in the Rotostarter, could it be that there is enough juice in the battery to turn the engine over with the gloplug out, but not enough juice in the battery to turn the engine over with the gloplug in? I have the battery on the charger right now and will try it again tomorrow, if I still can't get the engine to turn over I'll try and heat it up with a hairdryer.I really want to thank you guys for the info.

Thanks Chunky Monkey,
I do appriciate the info, ya know it's a new truck and nothing can ruin the excitment of something new more than haveing trouble with it from the git-go. Im sure it's something minor, and thats a lot bigger engine than the 2.5 thats in the Traxxas, so there's probebly alot more compression with the Savage engine, that battery is an 1800 nicad is that battery even big enough?

The roter start that comes with the savage x mite be faulty mine woz and so were many others so it could be that but if it is hpi will give you a new one out of the good batch.
If the red buton on the side hasent poped out of the rotostart its not charging fully or is not making enough power with that battery. If your engine has locked up and the rotostart is used on it working properly the button on the left pops out as a safety feature to prevent damage. I would think the battery dosent have enough umph in it or was not fully charged long enough the first time.
Just what I have had experience with, hope it helps.
