I just ordered my first Nitro Truck, the savage x. And i also ordered 2 quarts of fuel, i have not yet recieved it yet and was wondering how long that much fuel would last me. Also any tips on keeping up and running, how fast will it go stock? .....Thanks

Well, you will run through the first quart on break-in. (Dont skip this step unless you like buying new engines ;)) The second quart you could easily burn in a day if you like running alot. I would buy by the gallon, and dont run blue thunder.

Thanks for that i will head the warning! I was just curious as to which type of fuel is best?

There are alot of really good fuels to choose from. I run sidewinder, because it tunes easy, and has after run oils already in it. They actually recommend not to run after run oil when you use their fuel. It's pretty cheap too compared to alot of other expensive fuels I have tried, and makes the same power.

do you have any really important driving tips so that i won't destroy the truck the first time i use it? Or any tuning suggestions because i know absolutly nothing about most of the stuff.

The only cool driving tip I can suggest is to just RUN THE TRUCK.....If it breaks, it breaks.....]-[0pa]0ng and I were out running ours today and bashing the living crud out of them. Mine didn't flinch(100% stock Savage LE), but he broke a couple of aftermarket titanium bolts/screws. You just need to run the truck. I've done 25 foot cartwheels without any damage(except to my driving pride). It's just by chance if you break something, unless you go WOT into a wall....

Tuning isn't hard. Just follow the break in instructions to the "T." You'll wanna start hopping on the throttle as you're doing the heat cycle(driving in circles), but you need to resist. I doubled my break in length just for good measure. You should see a light stream of smoke from your truck and your low end take off show be on demand torque, not so much of a roll on the throttle type of sound.

If your truck starts making revving type sounds at WOT that sound like "wop wop wahh wop, lol" then you're too lean on the High Speed Needle/HSN(that's the needle adjustment screw pointing up). Simply turn the screw out/left 1/8th of a turn at a time and you'll hear an improvement.
If your truck sounds like it's gargling mouthwash at WOT, then you're too rich. Lean out the HSN by turning it in/right in 1/8th turn increments.

You'll find the Happy medium with your carb. Buy a temp gun as well. You should be running temps in the 250-270 range. If you're not getting the power at 270 degrees, then you won't get it at 280, no need to risk losing a motor(I've had my old .21 block about 300 on numerous occassions without an issue, lol but I don't condone that). Trim your savage body by cutting out a section of the front windshield, and the lower half of the rear window. This will help create a better flow of air over your motor.

Okay, there's enough for you to chew on for now.....Now get to breaking stuff! ! ! !

Just take your time breaking it in, and follow the instructions. Make sure you buy a temp gun. Duratrax flashpoint is like $25, and it will likely save you from buying an new engine. Once the break in is complete, dont let it get lower than half tank. There is a half tank lean issue with savages that causes your engine to get real hot after 1/2 tank, so just top it off, you dont even have to stop the engine. Basicly the idea is not to let your temps get above 180 at the glow plug.

Getting a high torque steering servo is a real good idea, the stock one is crap. The hitec 645mg is a decent servo thats not gonna break the bank.

The biggest mistake most people make is rushing through the break in, or not breaking it in at all. That is the leading cause of poor performance and engine failure.

is it absolutly critical for me to have a temp gun?

I would definately get one. Especially if you are new at tuning. You could make your engines life very short if you overheat your motor.

get a failsafe, these things aren`t too expensive and they prevent runaways.
when you get out of radio range or when the receiver batt gets low it stops the car and saves you a lot of money

All right. Just to day i phoned the hobby shop and they told me there was basher fuel or racing fuel. They also told me therewas racing fuel which would run alot hotter and be harder on my engine especially when breacking it it. I took the basher fuel and a temp gun. One more queestion how fast will it go through glow plugs? I have RC planes ans they have failsafes that shut the engine off then u crash, was wondering if i would be able to use one from there. Also the reciever pack would it be ok to use in the savage x?

I apologize for putting you up with a french site but the failsafe I got is in the lowest window.
you put it between your receiver and your throttle/brake servo and when you set it you aplpy a little brakes and press the button.
when your receiver batt is low or when the sav runs out of radio range the failsafe applies brakes as you `programmed` it.
I know nothing about rc planes & failsaves so I thought I`d just show you the thing.

Oh #$### I forgot the link, sorry here it is:

Racing fuel? Look on the can, does yours say 20% or 30%? The 30% is great to run for more power, but it doesn't shorten your motor life by much....20% must be the "bashing fuel" they are talking about.....I've seen plenty of folks win races on the "bashing fuel." Don't let the hobby shops over talk you on a sale or make something sound too good. If you're in doubt or need something, ask us on the forum and we'll give you all the insight you made need.

about your glow plug question it depends on how lean and rich u run your engine if u run it to lean u will smoke that plug same with running to rich...there is kinda a fine line there... but i have had glow plugs last over a GALLON get a cupple of spare and I allways change my plug after brake in anyway (it helps with tunning after brake in ) be aware of cheep glow plugs also I had to rebuild my surefire because I was cheep and bought so off brand plugs......keep these things in mind
