I had the rest of the diff parts so i decided to go and finish building the diff cases. Here is a picture of the XSS diff cup so you can see all the parts that come with it.

You can also buy this assembly for around 40 dollars from tower part number 86826 (I had 2 complete diff assemblies i just upgraded them to this version)

These pic's are the complete diff housing assembly.

Note I removed the purple from the lower hinge pin braces. I used Greased Lightning, let the parts soak for a couple of minutes rinse them off with water and no more purple. Not sure what Greased Lighting is here is a link http://www.greased-lightning.com/products/Products.aspx?ProductId=1

Got some new parts today and got the transmission all set.

Hitec - Servo (steering)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c354/jtmt72/new%20build/cba7b8fe.jpg
(in hand LHS) part number HS-5645MG

HPI - Dog Bones and Stub Axles
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c354/jtmt72/new%20build/bd7e32e7.jpg
(ebay) part numbers 86134 dog bones 86065 stub axles

HPI - Brake Hub
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c354/jtmt72/new%20build/bd7e32e7-1.jpg
(ebay) part number 86318

Now on to the transmission, I took the carbon fiber brake disc and sealed the outer edge with CA glue as recommended by Phil and Brian (thanks guys). I took off the spur gear and the dual disc brakes that came with the tranny, and installed the new HPI brake hub on to a stock black drive cup that I had here, the carbn disc fits like a glove on the HPI brake hub. Installed a new spur gear of a different tooth, now the tranny is complete.
here is a pic of the transmission with the new brake disc installed.

i agree with HS when are you going to start the tank JT

Well I have to wait for the TVP's to finished up and sent to me, before I do anything with the tank. By the looks of things I should have just about everything else done up when the TVP's do finally show, so when they arrive it will only be a short time for completion.

Sorry guys just going to have to wait and see what happens.:nutshot:

For those who want to chime in give me some ideas on what you would like to see. Mid tank or not, and if you want mid tank what tank would you like to see?

To be all honest, this engine I have been sitting on for about 10 months or so. Plus if you notice this STS is all black, I don't think you will find to many new ones that that any more. ;) Should go nicely with the plan for the truck.

I will still get an axial in the future too.

As for the "J" on the side of the mount I never noticed it until I mounted it for the pics.

Maxx-Savage

What is a midtank?

I belive JT really is the best qualified to answer that question.
But basically it is where the gas tank is put in between the TVP's usualy it is put where the radio box is.

Fx
02-06-2007, 01:10 PM
What is a midtank?

Simply put instead of having a fuel tank next to the engine like a stock savage, the fuel tank is in the middle of the truck aka where your radio box is.

votefordurden2008
02-06-2007, 01:17 PM
What is a midtank?

Ocremy midtank mods are done for primarily three reasons.

1. The stock savage tank has a shelf within it. As your fuel run's lower and lower, it gets to a point where its surface area changes and causes different pressure within the tank causing the infamous "half tank lean". The mid tank mod 99.9 % of the time has a tank without any kind of shelf or inconsistent design.

2. Weight Distribution, the throttle/brake servo is moved to where your stock tank is located. And the new tank is located typically where the throttle/receiver/battery would be between your TVP frame.

3. BLING BLING BABY!

JT is the Mr. T of mid tank bling....

I brought the dye bath to a simmer then submerged all 4 rims at the same time and let them go for 20 minutes or so. I was truly amazed on how well they turned out, even keeping the glossy finish on the rim. After they cooled I rinsed the rims off in cool water and wiped them down.

I wont post a pic of something if it hasn't been tested; and for what this part cost me it sure as :satan: better work.
These parts are not uncommon they are used typically in cars that had a rotary carb and then were switched to a slide carb. This also has 2 bearings on the arm for smooth operation.

another innovative throttle mod by jt...very, very nice!!

Unfortuantely I can't take the credit for building or thinking of the concept, it was a part that I found looking at various sites. It is designed for use in cars that had a rotary carb and have been switched to a slide carb.

be that as it may, that mill didn't come with a rotary carb...so who would have thought to use it?? too modest dude...it's sweet work, regardless...

Yes they are but, it needs to be known that the CEN shock are shorter than the Savage shock. So ride height will be limited unless you use adjustable shock towers to compensate.

Ofna Hyper One Seven 250cc Tank

what do i win?

The satisfaction of knowing the answer, but being a Revo guy you probably have seen the tank used in the Revo conversion.

haha, well i knew it had to be 250cc, and there not alot of choice in that tank range

Does a revo have enough power to pull around a big tank like that POLY?....

j/k bro!!!!!!

I didn't even think a Revo could hold it up by itself, let alone pull it around...

haha, jive talking fools

tbh ive heard alot about the revo using the 250cc tanks having pressure problems. you need to be running a .28 - .32 engine in them to get the pressure from the tank

sts should handle it though. (im hoping now that you are running this truck and its not just a shelf queen!)

Well guys more parts have arrived.

Some parts I didn't get pictures of, before I installed them- The pipe is a THS 1 piece pipe and for the tie rods I used some Integy Super Duty Turnbuckles as recommended by Basher Haven (Joe), here is a stock photo of them

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c354/jtmt72/new%20build/bbd2e2b7.jpg

As for the body it is done and painted but I have to modify the rear post to fit it properly because the body is so high.

So here they are some pics of the truck.

BUT

First I have to thank Rob from IRC, Mark from STS, Brian for getting the Integy and Nova parts for me, SMF for their excellent prices and fast shipping, Matt for painting the body, and all the other members for their help, support and opinions on this build.

So finally here it is, the project that lasted to long and now has been dubbed

"Anger Management"

As i have said through out this whole build you have done a great job jerry. the truck has a neat and clean look to it,but also says im gonna smoke your a$$ at the bashin ground. You are a great builder and a good friend keep up the builds and thanks for all that you have done for me and others. This build has been great for this site and the others that it is on. It show how you can build a full truck from ground up and that no one should be afraid to try as long as they keep it within their skill level. Sorry i am rambling so i will shut up. But that is one sick rigg the name suits it well.

On a much more serious note, the truck is great. Great selection of parts, and a great person to build it. Looks terrific and all the time you put into it paid off big time. You know the drill JT...........Videos. Take vids of the break-in and all that good stuff if you can. You don't even need to here it because you already know, but amazing truck JT.

That cord wrap was actually sent to me by one of my customers to be used for his build...he found it in a electronics supply store.

I liked it so much I asked him to send more to me.

What can I say, JT. This is one outstanding build, as we all can plainly see. A patient, yet deliberate effort on your part for sure. I'm pretty sure, all of use here at the forum, wish you could some how, keep this anger management device in your medicine cabnet. It obviously has a part of you, intwinded in it's design. Who ever does come in to possession of this truck, will have to think real hard, in finding an area of it's assembly, to improve on. Best wishes on whatever you deside for it's future.

Well due to lack of interest in the truck or its parts it is staying in my "medicine cabinet" for now. Thank you for the kind words Doob...As time permits "Anger Management" will be going through some minor changes and tweaking till I am fully happy with everything.

Thank you all to have looked and enjoyed this roller coaster ride with me on this build.

H,

I just been reading through some of these old threads, I really like those boots that go on the ends of the dog bones, how do they work, I mean would you suggest them? Where did you get them or what are they called? Looks like they would hold the grease in and keep the dirt out, believe it or not, I just pulled a feather (along with the grease) out of one of mine today.

Oh, BTW, great looking truck, I love the silver on black, great contrast. Can't wait to get to the pic's of the finished truck.

Thanks,

John

Great find, thanks Crash!!

Actually I have seen the ones at tower for the baja, I think they will be too big for the savage, they have the dia listed as 22mm, I think will be too big?? what do you think?

I bought 2 of the ones from Ebay to give them a try but I think really it would take 11 to get all of them on a savage protected, I would say 12 but I don't think it would fit with the brake hex???
