View Full Version : Project racer.
Okay plans are under way for a CF race savage. Here is my starting point.
http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/uu198/ThePopeNJ/DSCN1050.jpg
What am I doing to it well here it goes.
1)CF TVP's (on the way, Hope I get them soon stupid customs)
2)"Bulletproof" Diffs
3)Ceramic bearings all around (stock ones have cost me 5 pinion gears in a month)
4)ERCM Drag mod Picco .28 (Why drag mod well I have a 250cc tank and the mains are only 10min for MT)http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/uu198/ThePopeNJ/welcomepicco.gifhttp://i647.photobucket.com/albums/uu198/ThePopeNJ/calvinpicco.jpg
5) CF bulkhead plates, motor mount plate, and midtank mount (I am going to make these.)
6)Flux axles (The current XL ones are just to wide)
Should be a fun build and with the Ext flm's I will make a basher so two trucks again for me.

This picture makes me sick. Good luck with the build though.

thats a butt-ton of bearings & diffs, you sure its not the shim-job? :sport-smiley-026:
Yea sure. It all started when I replaced the bearings I had with new ones from an XL. I did notice the steal ring in the new bearings that hold the balls are a lot thiner in the new ones than the old 25 ones I used to have.

have you tried the bearings from smf
Just got the tvp's today and ordered some CF plate.
all holes drilled in the TVP's now just to install them.
Okay went to the LHS last night and picked up some screws to make my own screw kit. (getting tired of the stock screws)
Started putting it together but the motor was too high for the mid tank plate to fit so started grinding and cutting away at the trans case and the tvp's to lower the motor and trans. Almost done that then I just have to get it put together.

Plus I just got a few new tricks I want to try out.
Okay picked up alot of stuff for this bad boy.
Picco .28 ERCM Drag mod

Ace super HT steering servo

No I will use the drag mod in the basher and just get another race mod for the race truck.
Motor is here. Regardless of what I end up doing for next race season I know One race that I will be able to put this bad boy to work. The Big block class at the WF in may.

whats all the picco parts for? you building another engine?
Ordered them now so that come next summer when the rod and bearings need to be replaced I have them and I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for them.
Also got a back up pull start. I have two owb and owb starting shafts for it from the dead 26.
Well have a few things coming
PRC CF mid-tank plate
Flux axles
I also just built a new high speed flux trans w/ 45 tooth spur. I really like how simple it is and that you can greese your gears now. I also replaced the drive gears at the top with the HD ones.
Okay had to go back to the flm tvp's my cf ones had a few issues. I am going to get some new ones from prc soon though.
Also ordered a techno rc revo wing mount. Anyone ever seen one and will I be able to bolt it to my prc wing plate.
Got to test out the new second gear Flux trans. I must say I like it. I am running it with a 45 tooth flux spur gear and a 18 tooth cb.
I thought that I might have an issue with low end power but yet again the ERCM picco doesn't fail to deliever. It has more than enough power to spin my badlands on concreat even with the fact that it is basicly locked into second gear with a very high gearing on the spur/cb that I would never dream of running on anything else.
New pipe is here along with a tekno wing mount. now all I need is for Jason to get more CF in.

The JL engine is a .21 bump start, you are correct, it is not made by picco, rather force engines, the reviews look very promising. The JLR .28 is also a bump start engine and it is made by Picco. The only Picco engine you can run in a Savage is the "P3" or standard pull start Picco .28 which is made in Italy.

are you guys joking around or did it really get to 400?
Most motors it will. Also depends on the reason it got that hot. To lean yes the motor is dead.
what other reason would cauze it to get it to 400 degrees (if, of course you guys werent joking about it?)
nice build, i like the looks of the wing guard, hope fully she stays straight & tall for ya.
Yea 422 degrees on the .26. It got that hot because I had not cut any vents in the body as I hadn't run it with a body yet I didn't know. It overheated lost all power but I kept going. It was wot so it had a ton of fuel going through it but only limited rpm. When it came off the track it was soked with oil.
The motor is fine though with tons of compression still so it is good to go still.

How much flex is in the rear shock tower, if it's anything like the standard ones that radio box or header will be smashed with one good hit to the rear. Just something to think about. Looks great though.
That blue grove wing mount takes it all out it is completly stiff

Awsome! And that's just 1/4 throttle!
Truck came out really good Alex! :10:
Didn't you just put on some Hellfire shock mounts? I was trying to find the pic.
Yep insain I give it 1/2 throtal to start than back it down to 1/4 once it is moving. I had to richen it up a bit as the last time I had run it I was in a heated garage.
The shock parts you are talking about are the blue groove tekno wing wing mount kit
Okay have a issue. The Blue groove wing mount kit doesn't work very well with the BB shocks. You can mount them on any of the bottom three holes but that causes you to raise your ride hight quite a bit. So much infact that the suspension travel won't alow the truck to bottom out it stops about a 1/4 inch off the ground. I am working on getting this fixed. Turning them upside down solves the problem and lets you mount them where ever on the mounts on the top but requires you to cut the front part of the shock mounts on the lower Arm. This worries me a bit.
Second thing I am dealing with is the steering linkage. There is alot of play in it. I am going to measure out and get lunsford turnbuckles with ballstuds and a FLM cross member and see if that helps any.
Truck has had two big changes.
Ercm picco .28 has been sold and replaced with my old picco .26 and the ERCM pipe is gone as well and I either run a THS pipe or and 086 depending. Truck still halls but isn't as loud.
