View Full Version : The revo challange
I know a guy who runs a revo. Well we got to talking and long story short I ran my mouth to much and it ended in the normal way a bet. Well a $1 bet that is all we do as it is more a ego thing with the guys I know. I won't lie if I had to race him today I wouldn't have a chance in the world he has a moded picco .26 max motor and a bullit proof truck. The thing is stupid fast and on top of that he is a far better driver than me. Good thing his truck is apart since he leaves for FL in a week and a half and he wants it winterized.
So I have till May to get a savage that can beat his revo. I am looking for the craziest motor I can find and am putting together the parts list for a new CF race truck taking a lot of idea's from savagesam's truck atm.
I am taking my savage into revo country tomorrow to race at a track I have never been to but is where this guy races to get some practice in on the track and get to know how the revo's racing weeknesses.
Wish me luck I am going to need it.

its not in the mill. you can get him with a stock one. its all in your handling and driving
If a revo is set up right there are no racing weaknesses.

This guy is far better than me at driving. He can drive that truck and take advantage of all of that power. I need to do alot of practice and need to have power to match him if I am to even to stand a chance.

power will just get you in trouble you dont need it for racing. you pass in the corners not the straights. only thing you need to mod a mill to race for is economy. but I dont think you are talking half hour races

My sons own a savage and a revo (both electric). The revo is faster on smoother surfaces and tighter turns, but the savage can handle the rough terrain much faster than the revo.
The revo drives more like a truggy while the savage is more like a monster truck.
If matching revo vs. savage, pick a real rough terrain with minimal reversing turns and it will be a good race. The revo is a few pounds lighter and doesn't handle rough surfaces as well as the savage.
In my humble opinion, matched driving skills, the savage will win on rough bumpy surfaces and minimal turns, but the revo will win on flat surfaces with lots of reversing turns.
He will walk all over my picco .26 all day long. My only chance right now is that he breaks something during the race we are going most laps in 15 min. I have a 250cc tank. I don't know how big the revo one is but he might have to pit for fuel once which is a plus for me. SteGra he is a much better driver than I. I have yet to see the track. I am going tomorrow so we shall see what I am up against track wise than.
Most Revo's have a 150cc tank

...... he is a far better driver than me.
^^^ that rite there is gonna be a tough obstacle, but you have time to even the odds.
Traxxas markets the Revo as a racer vs. a MT so the guys make a good point in "truggy-izing" your savage.
you need to get low & wide & practice racing with that set up so you know it.
youve got the RSC which is great, now for some off-set rims & Truggy/Buggy shocks.
for the shocks you can get big bores & use hellfire shafts or change to different towers & buy Hellfire, D8 or other shocks.
Banks right tho, races get lost in the technical parts; you always hear savagesam say "i hope for a clean race."
good luck Alex, hope you win that buck bro rockout

Add solvent based glue to his fuel or if u get a chance cut the Revos antenna shorter so it gets out of range as soon as he is 10 feet from it. If u cant beat it kill it... But if ur up to the challenge
If I win It is going to be a fair win and if I loose it will be fair. I can deal with it.

idea one, pin ***** the the fuel line near the carb so his engine leans and pops.
idea two, run him over as revo's break i have seen it all to many times.
idea three, rough tracks will give you an advantage against a revo
idea four, i come over with the my race truck and you stand there with a 2nd contoller ( controlling fresh air ) while i race from behind a tree...lol
good luck and remember to have fun lol

i own an e revo. i have driven the savage, nitro and electric. im sorry but there was a reason why i bought a revo not a savage. however looking at your pics you have a better chance than most. the biggest advantage a revo has is predictability and consistency. it will run the same groove every lap if the driver has any skill. You have a good chance though, if he does'nt have swaybars. then just throw in the towel on a smooth track. and do the entire r/c community a favor and do it fair. there is no honor in having to cheat to win.
Yep if I was going out to buy a MT for racing I would by a revo. That is not the point of this. As far as cheating. Wouldn't dream of it. That is not the kind of guy I am. If I planed on cheating to win do you think I would have droped the kind of coin I have on this truck. The fact that you would say it like that shows you don't know a thing about me and quite frankly it is insulting.
Here is the truck fully done up for anyone who hasn't seen it. http://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13132&page=4

:banme:no insult intended. that cheating bit was directed more towards the others on this thread. i'm sure they were joking. its just sad to me that i have met people that would do that mess. so far everyone i have seen on this forum are great peeps. sorry again if i offended you, its just my biggest pet peeve. i do look forward to the results and good luck.:peace:
No problem we were just joking around a bit is all

that makes me feel better. i though id pushed a button with you. i have seen you post to some no limit stuff. do you plan to make it to a NLVA race or the world finals sometime? I'd like to see how my Erevo could do up against your so called "slayer". :)
Yep wf in may. Just as a note not trying to down the revo at all. Is my truck capable of beating a revo for sure but that took thousands to do.

Its all in good fun. Ive seen the e-revo in question. Pretty quick but it's all about the driver. I want a shot at that revo as well godspeed. I'm sure you remember who I am. We camped right next to you at the finals. We were on the opposite side for the punkin smash. See ya at the finals. Bring the heat boys.

yeah its quick. thanks to castle. i've had it for a little over a year now and i have just got the hang of driving it. i screwed myself at the punkin smash in two ways. first i had'nt driven it with the lipos(6oC maxamps 4s batteries) before race day. and i left my pinions at home. at the punkin smash i had it geared low all weekend now i've got it going faster than i can keep up with. its too much but its fun just to mess with. i'll get a pic of it and post it. and yeah i remember you tominator. hope to see you guys again soon. and about the driver thing, definetly. i have seen guys win races with pos cars/trucks against high dollar equipment. its all setup and keeping your cool.
I am setting up a mock track at my friends this weekend to practice on this winter for the WF. No I won't be practicing with the picco in winter just a cheep mill.
